ONE Small Town TWO Big Gem Festivals

Nestled right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the small town of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, hosts two of the most anticipated events in the gem and mineral world: the NC Mineral and Gem Festival and the Grassy Creek Gem Show. These festivals are not just events; they are celebrations of the region’s rich geological heritage and its significant impact on the local community and economy.

The NC Mineral and Gem Festival, held annually in Spruce Pine, is a must-visit for gem enthusiasts and collectors. This festival, which began over 60 years ago, has grown into one of the premier gem and mineral shows in the Southeast. Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Spruce Pine to explore an impressive array of minerals, fossils, gems, and jewelry from vendors across the globe.

Running concurrently with the NC Mineral and Gem Festival is the Grassy Creek Gem Show. This show, which has been a staple in the region for over 30 years, is held just a short drive from the NC Gem Festival venue. Vendors at the Grassy Creek Gem Show display a wide variety of gems, minerals, fossils, and lapidary equipment. This show is particularly beloved by rockhounds and amateur geologists, who can find unique specimens.

The Grassy Creek Gem Show is known for its friendly and laid-back atmosphere. It provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to connect with seasoned collectors and learn about the intricate art of lapidary.
